Applications are now open for year five of theTogetherGreen Conservation Leadership Program and Innovation Grants program. All application materials can be found by visiting www.togethergreen.org. For the Conservation Leadership (Fellows) and Innovation Grants (Grants) programs, please visit the website links below to get all the information you need and to access the online application. Each site includes background information about the programs, selection criteria, application guidelines, and answers to questions that you might have.

Toolbox for Education

Lowe's Toolbox for Education Invites Applications for K-12 Public School Improvement Projects

The Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program, funded by the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, provides grant awards of up to $5,000 to support school improvement projects at public schools throughout the U.S. Now in its sixth year, the program has donated over $25 million to more than five thousand K-12 schools, benefitting over two million schoolchildren.
For the 2011-12 program, basic needs will take priority. There is a preference for funding requests that have a permanent impact such as facility enhancement (both indoor and outdoor) as well as landscaping/cleanup projects. Projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit will be favored. Please note the grant money cannot be used to pay for memorials, stipends, salaries, artists in residence, field trips, scholarships, or third party funding.
Sample project ideas include reading gardens, vegetable gardens, physical fitness areas, school landscaping projects, school nature trails, parent involvement centers, peer tutoring centers, playgrounds, and rotating student art exhibits.
Any individual U.S. public K-12 school or nonprofit parent group associated with a public K-12 school is eligible to apply. Parent groups that are applying (PTO, PTA, etc.) must have an independent EIN and official 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. Groups without 501(c)(3) status should apply through their school. Preschools are not eligible.
Grant request must be between $2,000 and $5,000 per school. Lowe's will donate $5 million to schools and school parent/teacher groups at more than one thousand different schools during the school year.
The deadline for submitting applications for the fall 2011 grant cycle is October 14, 2011. However, if 1,500 or more applications are received before the application deadline, the application process will close.

SPLASH! School Grants

There are a few changes for the 2011–12 school year: 
1) funding has been reduced to maximum of $3,000 per school; 
2) projects must be focused on freshwater resources;
3) STEM-related water resource projects will receive preference;
4) providing a clear project plan and alignment with curriculum standards are key to funding award.

Donna J. Heinrich Environmental Education Grant

Environmental Education Grant

The deadline for applications is August 31st of each year.

The GTC environmental education grant was established to support educators and organizations committed to developing educational projects about the gopher tortoise and the fascinating world in which it lives. The grant also honors Donna June Heinrich, an environmental educator whose life was dedicated to conserving wildlife and their associated habitats.

Preference will be given to:

• Projects that reach diverse and new audiences.
• Projects that focus on the importance of the conservation of intact upland ecosystems.
• Projects that encourage community involvement.
• Projects that have matching funds.

Note:

GTC’s annual environmental education grant budget is $4,000 with a maximum award of $2,000 per project.. This can be awarded to one recipient, or several.

A project summary for “The Tortoise Burrow” newsletter and either a presentation or poster at the following year's GTC annual meeting will be required.

Greenworks grants cycle open

Project Learning Tree’s 2011 GreenWorks! grant application is now online!  Grants of up to $1,000 are available and grant applications are due September 30, 2011. 

 

GreenWorks! Grant Details

Through a competitive application process, PLT will award grants by the end of December 2011 to PLT-trained educators for service-learning projects that involve youth in all elements of planning, implementing, and maintaining an environmental action project. Applicants should demonstrate how their GreenWorks! project will connect to the academic curriculum and how it will allow students to apply classroom knowledge and skills. Projects should also involve the local community and provide students opportunities to demonstrate and celebrate their accomplishments.

 

A Second Grant Opportunity

In 2011, Project Learning Tree’s GreenWorks! program is offering a second grant opportunity.  PLT has designated funds available to registered schools in the PLT GreenSchools! program (registration is free). This funding is specifically tied to the implementation of GreenSchools! action projects. Please note that there are two different grant proposals, one for Project Learning Tree’s traditional GreenWorks! grant funding and one for GreenSchools! action projects. PLT encourages you to apply for at least one!
